Dried Fig and Date Jam

I bought some stuff at Nuts.com and they added free sample of figs. Twice. So I made very good winter jam – fragrant, sweet and… crunchy. Great with goat cheese and crackers.

I adopted recipes from Taste Spotting and Krithi’s Kitchen. It’s very sweet fruits by itself, so, no sugar in recipe.

Dried Fig and Date Jam

8 oz. dried figs
4 oz. dates
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. fresh lemon peel
1 cup water
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Bring to boil 1 cup of water with the figs and cook, covered, in low heat, about 15 minutes, until the figs are plump and soft. Take figs from water and add dates into it, bring to boil, turn heat off and let dates stay, covered, about 10 minutes.

Add dates (with water), figs, lemon juice and peel and cinnamon to a blender/food processor. Blend it into smooth consistency.

In a non-stick saucepan cook mashed fig and dates in medium heat stirring with a wooden spoon about 3-4 minutes. Allow to cool to room temperature. Cover and store.
