Russian Canned Apple Pie Filling

We were at orchard last Sunday and picked up some apples.  Part of it I used for this plain and easy preserves for Russian Yeast Pie – Pirog s Yablokami. For American Pie filling more spices are needed.

Russian Canned Apple Pie Filling

Yield: 4 pint jars

3 lb. apples
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)

Wash the apples, remove the core. Cut into slices. Pour sugar and cinnamon on top and leave overnight.

Next day bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 5 minutes.

Place into sterilized jars, cover with sterilized lids and close it. Some add 1 tsp. vodka into each jar (on top) to be more sterile.

Store in a cool pantry or refrigerator.

1 jar is about 475 calories
